This collection of photographs are taken on the Riverview ands in Coquitlam, British Columbia. The buildings are the skeleton of what used to be Riverview Hospital, a mental health facility that opened its doors in 1913 and closed almost one hundred years later in 2012.
Many of the original buildings have been torn down however, a few remain preserved as historic sites. The newer buildings that are still functional remain empty bit are continuously occupied by British Columbia’s growing film industry.
The closure of the hospital left several residents who suffered from mental illness and drug addiction with no where to go. Today, many of those residents live on the streets of Vancouver’s Downtown East Side.
